The Bachelor of Nursing program is based on an innovative, problem based learning model in consultation with the health care industry experts. The course curriculum fulfils the need of today’s nursing industry.

About the course

The Bachelor of Nursing is a 3-year degree program. In the first two years, lectures and problem based learning combined with clinical experiences at partner teaching hospitals and health districts takes place. The final year comprises of extensive clinical placement programs that provide the students with an exposure to an area of specialty nursing practice.



Placement programs

In order to undertake clinical programs, a student must maintain a Senior First Aid Certificate throughout the program and need to re-certify it every 12 months to maintain the current status. Students are also required to obey the School of Nursing and Midwifery Infectious Diseases and Immunisation Guidelines to provide their status with respect to blood-borne transmissible viruses like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. Students are also required to have a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before clinical placements.

Graduation requirements

In order to be a graduate, student must complete 192 points (24 subjects) which also includes attaining a satisfactory grade for all clinical placements.

Entry requirement for Australian students is 10+2 or equivalent English with one of Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physics whereas entry requirements for international students are:

  • Qualified 10+2 or equivalent with English with one of Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physics
  • International students must undertake this program on a full time basis to be eligible to apply for an Australian student visa.
  • An IELTS overall 7 for reading, writing, speaking and listening is also required.

Post graduate options for graduates

Graduate nurses can go for further studies like Doctor of Health Science, Master of Health Science (Honours), Master of Health Services Management, Master of Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery.

Apply for registration

After the completion of the course, you can apply for registration as a nurse (List A). After the registration, nurses are eligible to work in any healthcare centre where registered nurses are employed.

Careers available to nursing graduates

Registered nurses have many career options in the field of public or private health care, teaching, research, aid organizations, the defence forces or a combination of these areas. Once you are a graduate registered nurse, the job prospects are very good as most of the students get employment within the first six months after the completion of the course.

All graduates are eligible for a membership with professional bodies like Royal College of Nursing Australia.
