Nursing Profession for Skilled Migrants in Australia
They say its ‘passion’ not ‘pedigree’ that wins at the end. So, if
nursing is your passion, Australia has a lot of opportunities for you.
With nurses currently high in demand in Australia, there’s an emerging
trend in large number of new skilled migrants trying their luck in this
profession.

What are the skills required
To work as a nurse in Australia, you must first have your qualification
assessed by relevant authority and gain registration with one of the
state or territory nursing registration boards. It is proposed that as
of 1 July 2010 the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme will
commence, introducing one registration throughout Australia.
As a nurse, you need to go for English proficiency test before skills
assessment or visa grant. The proficiency in English language is
achieved by taking either the International English Language Testing
System (IELTS) or the Occupational English Test (OET).
What is IELTS and OET?
IELTS is a test planned to assess an applicant’s English language grip.
It has an academic test and a general training test. The applicants for
registration as a nurse are required to take the academic test. While
the Occupational English Test, (OET) is a language test for overseas
professionals. The Test assesses English language proficiency as it is
used in medical and health professions. The OET is administered by the
OET Centre seven times a year and in over 40 locations across the world.
The test is conducted to determine the language proficiency of qualified
health professional seeking registration. It is designed to ensure that
language competency is assessed in a relevant professional context
without any compromise. Types of Nursing Visas you can apply in Australia
